Short Bio

Wu is a PhD candidate in the Department of Economics at Michigan State University. Prior to coming to MSU in 2017, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics from Wuhan University. Wu’s research employs various empirical techniques to evaluate policy impacts, with a particular focus on policies affecting the low-income populations. She is interested in combining economics and big data to understand and solve social problems.

Wu studies applied microeconomics. Her research focuses on the direct and indirect effects of safety net programs in the United States. Specifically, she is interested in learning how the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the Food Stamp program, has an impact on the behaviors of disadvantaged groups.
